Just weeks before Donald Trump decided to run for president, he had a private telephone conversation with a high-profile politician who encouraged Trump to get more involved in the Republican Party. The two exchanged ideas on how to better relate to the Republican majority.
That politician was not a Republican.
It was former president Bill Clinton.
According to Clinton associates, Clinton did not outright tell Trump to run for the White House. But the call does raise eyebrows among those who question Trump’s ties to Democrats.
The Clintons attended Trump’s wedding to Melania in 2005. Trump also donated to Hillary Clinton’s Senate campaigns and to the charity, The Clinton Foundation.
Although Clinton’s personal office confirms that the conversation took place in late May, 2015, and associates of Trump and Clinton confirm that Trump told Clinton about his political aspirations, including a potential run for the presidency, all deny that the conversation was anything but personal.
So, just like that “personal” meeting between Bill Clinton and Attorney General Loretta Lynch just days before the FBI failed to indict Hillary.
